                    ¨Health confirms death of person diagnosed with Screwworm Miasis¨

Wednesday 19 June, 2024. The Ministry of Health confirms that this Wednesday reported the unfortunate death of a 19-year-old woman, a resident of Guanacaste,a patient with chronic pathologies and diagnosed with Screwworm Miasis.The patient was treated at Upala Hospital for a lesion in her mouth where larvae were detected and she was transferred to Hospital México. The Costa Rican Ministry of Health confirmed the second death of a person caused by the cattle screwworm, a plague that has been causing alert for some weeks due to its presence in humans. In my personal opinion on this issue, I invite you to  take extreme hygiene measures, take care of exposed wounds, and at the same time work on strategies to reduce the populations of flies that produce these larvae.
